What a difference a year makes. Summer is now upon us and we should be looking forward to the cricket club back in action on the White Waltham wicket and a beer garden full of happy guests enjoying a few drinks and something from our menu. I cannot wait for the first game of cricket and do hope we see some action in 2020.
We were ordered to close on 20th March, since then the world and country has been turned on its head. The future is uncertain and all we can do is hold on to our hope and ride this storm out, avoiding this virus and staying well.
The economic state of the country is now very worrying. We are doing our best at the Beehive to survive the crisis; our team have been furloughed and we are trying to honour our financial obligations, especially with our valued suppliers. This is incredibly important to me and is despite us not being eligible for any grants from central government.
Our rent is huge so we are working with our landlord to try to come up with a way to trade ourselves out of this unprecedented situation.
We have tried to keep the pub tidy and make sure the garden is mowed, weeds maintained as well as the general upkeep of everything. It is amazing how quickly a building can fall apart when unloved and neglected.
The hardest thing of all is not knowing the future. While we wait and see what the government decide, we need to be creative and plan how to reopen.
While we wait, we will try to work with new focus. We need to find a way to operate safely and constructively offering a service to the community that is valued and required. We must find a positive way around and through this horrible virus and economic disaster.
